The filter does not need to be replaced regularly because it is made so it can be cleaned as needed. The humidifier itself does not require weekly cleaning as is the case with other humidifiers--the manual does not suggest any specific frequency, just when mineral buildup becomes noticeable.http://artbynela.com/uploads/hotpoint-8564-manual.xml
Unplug the unit from the wall after you've turned it off. The main housing contains the motor unit, which must not get wet, so place the main housing in a dry area away from where you will be doing the cleaning. Release the plastic hooks you'll find at each corner of the filter frame, and remove the filter from its frame. Fill the basin with 1 gallon of water and 1 cup of white vinegar. Let the filter soak for 20 minutes. Prop it up over a towel and allow it to drip dry while you clean the rest of the humidifier. Empty any remaining water in the tank. Pour this solution into the base and let it sit for 20 minutes. Wipe it with a sponge or cloth to remove any remaining mineral deposits, then rinse it with clean water. Replace the cap on the tank and shake it thoroughly until the vinegar-water mixture has cleaned off the inside surface of the tank. Empty out the vinegar-water solution and rinse the water tank out with clean water. Plug it in, turn it on and resume use. Show Comments. Did all the troubleshooting guide it came with said to do. Called Hunter Technical and the person said pretty much just to return the unit. Never even tried to walk me thru maybe trying to get it to run and I felt like they KNEW IT WAS A JUNKY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. Goes to show you not all Hunter products are good as I expected this one to be. Being sent back today-----what a waste of time and effort and foolishly believing that Hunter made only quality products.Shattered all over. Bad messThat leaked too. This is worthless and I want my money back.Wicks expensive and don't work for long. The Hunter is easy to clean no WICK and work like a charm. I can easily keep my space at 45% Humidity the other two wick system could manage 32%. I have two because of the space, one I bought at Home Depot, it was ten Dollars more the the Amazon Humitifier and as always delivered to the door.I can have it running on the highest setting all night and into the day - probably at least 14 hours. - The amount of mist emitted is controlled by a dial, giving you more options than other humidifiers which have just a 1 or 2 setting option. - Quiet. As the water is used, you will occasionally hear air bubbles coming up. This is inevitable as air needs to take the space where the water was. I say this because after viewing the reviews on several different humidifiers I saw many people complained about noise. Other than the air bubbles, this humidifier does not make any sound. - Mist nozzle rotates 360 degrees. Negatives: - The mist nozzle just sits into a hole. It is unattached so as soon as you turn the tank over for filling, the nozzle falls out. If you are like me, it will take several refills until you remember to remove the nozzle first. Seems like a poor design as it could easily be attached while allowing 360 rotation.
- It always seems to drip water after refilling. I tighten the cap so that it is very snug. Yet after turning it upright after refilling, a bit of water always seems to drip. Not a lot. But still, water on my floor does not make me happy. I have let it sit on the counter for a couple of minutes hoping that the water will come out there and be done dripping when I am ready to carry the tank back to the base. Not so. Still drips. The water does not seem to be coming from the fill cap, but from another area of the bottom of the tank. Again, seems to be the result of a poor design choice. - There will be water in the base when the tank needs to be refilled. So when you lift the tank, water that the tank was sitting in will drip from the bottom of the tank. Another thing that could have probably been prevented with better design. - The size of this humidifier does not really make it a table top appliance. (And the leaking would likely damage wood furniture.) I had set it on top of a step stool in my bedroom. I was concerned that the mist would make my carpet damp. The concern was based upon seeing how the mist settled. The fan doesn't sent the mist very high. Despite being on the stool, my carpet was damp after overnight use on the highest setting. So I have had to settle for a lower mist setting to try to prevent having my carpet wet every night. I am currently debating whether to keep this. There doesn't seem to be many choices of humidifiers with this size take and at this price. It does seem to do the job. (Though my sinuses are still a little dry.) I just wish it would do the job with less mess.We use it in addition to our whole house humidifier. What's not to like? Let it go long enough and your machine could pump out bacteria along with mist or steam. At least once a week, turn off your humidifier and get cleaning — but you can do it more frequently if you or anyone in your family has respiratory problems. What you'll need You don't need (and shouldn't use) detergents or abrasive brushes to clean a humidifier. Just gather up the following: Distilled white vinegar Liquid chlorine bleach A small, soft brush, like a toothbrush or nylon dish brush How to clean your humidifier Both cool mist and warm steam humidifiers use a similar procedure, but some of the parts may differ. Some brands may also have parts that are dishwasher safe. Check the owner’s manual to be sure. Unplug and empty the humidifier, and disassemble it completely. For the base and tank, pour one to two cups of undiluted white vinegar into the water tank and swish it around to completely wet the interior of the tank. (Some brands recommend a mix of white vinegar and water.) Place the vinegar-filled tank on the base and allow the vinegar to drain into the reservoir to loosen mineral build-up. Let stand for 15-20 minutes.
Empty the vinegar from the tank and base and use a small brush to scrub crevices and remove any stuck-on mineral deposits. For small parts like the tank cap, wipe with a clean cloth or sponge dipped in full-strength white vinegar. Rinse all the parts thoroughly and air dry, then reassemble. Note: Don't try to wash the wick filter as it can damage the paper-like material and potentially remove an antimicrobial coating. You're better off replacing the filter with a new one. How to disinfect your humidifier If you think your humidifier's in need of a deeper clean, you can also use a bleach solution to help kill lingering bacteria. Disassemble and clean your humidifier as outlined above. Mix 1 gallon of water with 1 teaspoon of liquid chlorine bleach. Place tank in the base and allow the bleach solution to drain into the water reservoir. Allow it to stand for 15-20 minutes. Empty the bleach solution from the tank(s) and base. Rinse with clear water until the scent of bleach is gone. Wipe dry and reassemble. Humidifier maintenance tips Now that your machine's in good working order, take these steps to keep it running smoothly: Bacteria can grow in as little as one to two days. To prolong the life of your wick filter, turn it over each time you fill the tank to keep the top from drying out and to help the filter age more evenly. Replace the filter every 30-60 days depending on condition and use, especially if it gets hard and crusty from water minerals, gives off an odor, or the moisture output of the humidifier decreases. Remove and discard the filter and ensure all parts are clean and dry before you put the humidifier into storage, per the manufacturer’s directions.
